Workshop - Personal Projects & Storytelling
Developing Personal Projects and Storytelling with Ben Cherry
This workshop is ideal if you want the skills to plan and develop your own personal projects, develop your story telling ability and equip yourself with ideas on how to market and tell the world about your story.
You will be going on location and will have the opportunity to shoot and put you new found skills into practice.
Why will this make me a better photographer?
This workshop will be an introduction into personal projects, highlighting how having a project to focus your photography can be quick fire way to take your photography to the next level. There will be a particular focus on narrative photography, creating more than just a series of beautiful singular images, instead looking to tell a story through images.
Key Learning points:
– An insight into Ben Cherry’s world.
– An in depth look at several projects and what you can learn from them.
– Focus on story telling – how a collection of images can combine into a powerful photo essay.
– Hands on, on local shoot to practice new skills and explore further storytelling tools. (transport provided)
– Return to the studio for review and summery.
There will be several hours here you will be able to practice your skill on location. We will provide you with an expert to delivery a narrative of the place and people and you will have time to develop your perspective / narrative and shoot it to tell that story.
What you need to bring
You will need to bring a camera, a note pad, pen and an open mind.
We limit the number of attendee to small numbers to ensure we deliver a world class experience.

Ben Cherry, the course leader is a Fujifilm Ambassador and has worked his ideas into a variety of genres, from commercial work like weddings and events, to his environmental work highlighting human – wildlife interaction.
Ben will have just returned from a ground breaking conservation project called Flight of the Swans with the Wildfowl Wetlands Trust, where Sacha Dench, a conservationist and paramotorist will fly from arctic Russia back to the UK, along the same flyway as Bewick’s Swans. The project aims to highlight their dramatic population decline to countries along the flyway, as well as finding the key reasons for their decline. Ben is part of a highly skilled media team, he will be focusing on photography and social media for the project. He will have plenty of narrative stories from this project to share.

Edd Del Vecchio - September workshop participant:Thank you again for such an interesting workshop. You’ve really helped me open my eyes to a new way to approach my photography and it was inspirational to hear about your projects and see your beautiful work. I thought the workshop was a nice balance between talks and interactive sessions - getting up, moving around and putting what you have learnt into practice is certainly the way to go! Kudos to you and your RPS colleagues for getting that just right.
I’ve just come back from a holiday in Ibiza, where I found myself taking photos with the storytelling structure in mind; creating natural story arcs, thinking about the message I want to convey and carefully considering the final image to wrap up the entire narrative. All of this was thanks to your well-structured and brilliantly delivered workshop, so thank you Ben!
Keep up the great work with your photography. The same goes for the training - you most definitely have a flair for it and I would thoroughly recommend your workshop to anyone looking to take their photography to the next level!
